Club Med Cancun to Reopen as Upscale Resort for Everyone
Club Med Cancun took a hurricane beating in 2005 and remains closed until November 2006. Club Med has made the decision to change Club Med Cancun from an adult-only resort to an upscale resort for everyone ... offering the culture of Mexico while pampering their guests. My husband and I visited Club Med in the "old days" (August 2005 - see item under "Trip Reports"), so I'm very curious to see the "new" resort. The new Club Med Cancun resort, scheduled to open in Fall 2006, is Club Med’s latest addition to its collection of upscale discovery resorts.
With an estimated investment of $20 million to the new resort, Club Med Cancun will cater to the most demanding traveler’s needs. No longer an adults-only resort, the resort will allow families with or without children to discover the Yucatan Peninsula. There is no clear information at this time regarding children's programs being offered at the resort.
The resort will feature larger rooms (400 in total) with extended balconies and terraces and a blend of natural adobe with bold Mexican colors. Those wishing for ultimate pampering and comfort may chose one of the 36 suites with room service. Architects based the new design on a fusion of Mexican and contemporary styles where each traditional room boasts the modern amenities of flat screen TV’s, pillow top bedding and more.
The new Cancun’s main restaurant will offer daylong service with constant replenishment of fresh meal options to suit guests’ cravings. The new dining rooms around the main restaurant will provide six different dining atmospheres, all air-conditioned. For a more intimate dining experience, the new open air restaurant will specialize in unique Mexican gourmet. In the evening, tapas fusing traditional cuisine with New World ingredients will be available in the bar lounge area.
To complete the gourmand’s journey through the diverse flavors of Mexico, Club Med Cancun will compliment its extraordinary Mexican and international cuisine with superior Latin American wines, a wide selection of premium tequilas, signature Mexican margaritas and other fine alcohols. Guests may savor drinks at the new lounge area along the pool or choose from a selection of wines in the dining room.
