Tahiti Sees Renovations, Additions to Resort Roster
Tahiti has loads of renovations, upgrades and additions in the works for Tahiti's hotels ... Tahiti, Bora Bora ...
Sofitel has upgraded and renovated four of its authentic Tahitian-styled hotels. After $15 million in renovations, including brand new overwater bungalows and a 230-meter infinity pool, the Sofitel Marara on Bora Bora just recently reopened its doors on May 4. Along with the 64 individual bungalows crafted from wood and woven pandanus, the Sofitel Marara also offers a Deluxe Villa with two separate bungalows. In addition to the recent upgrade of the Sofitel Maeva Beach in Tahiti, the Sofitel Ia Ora on Moorea is scheduled to complete their renovations and reopen by late 2006. The Sofitel Motu on Bora Bora is currently getting a face-lift, and those renovations should be completed in the coming months.
Elsewhere, Hotel Bora Bora's Fare Pote, the hotel's beachfront thatched-roof pavilion, has a new look. Whether you're planning a romantic dinner or an extensive wedding ceremony, the Fare Pote's secluded location overlooking the lagoon is an unforgettable locale. For the tennis enthusiast, Hotel Bora Bora is pleased to offer the services of tennis pro, Alain Lambert, who has experience coaching for the U.S. Open and Wimbledon.
The InterContinental Resort & Thalasso Spa Bora Bora is the chic new destination in the islands of Tahiti. Opened in May 2006, the 80 thatched roof overwater villas provide traditional island flavor, while the sleek restaurants and innovative eco-friendly air-conditioning system adds a touch of the metropolitan. Other amenities, scheduled to open in September 2006, include the Deep Ocean Spa by Algotherm, the first in the world to use mineral-rich deep seawater extracted from 2,500 feet below sea level, and an overwater wedding chapel with a glass bottom floor.
The St. Regis Resort on Bora Bora, which opened June 20, features 100 villas on a 44-acre spread, three world-class restaurants, the largest resort beach in the region, and the 13,000 square-foot Miri Miri Spa, the first spa in the islands to occupy its own private island. The St. Regis resort offers one, two, or three bedroom over-the-water and beach villas ranging from 1,550 square feet, many of which have terrace whirlpools and private swimming pools. For those who want a truly memorable experience, try the 13,000 square-foot ultra-luxurious Royal Estate Suite. All rooms come with 24-hour concierge, room service, and legendary butler service.
The Sheraton Hotel Tahiti has just completed a $10 million enhancement project, providing a whole new look and feel to the already exquisite hotel. The 200 rooms and suites have been completely remodeled in Island Colonial Style, treating visitors with mahogany and cane furnishings, coconut tree floors, plantation wooden shutters, and marble bathrooms. New additions to the hotel include a white sand beach along the hotel's lagoon and wireless internet access throughout the hotel, even poolside.
On January 7, 2007, Le Taha'a Private Island and Spa will close its doors to the public for extensive additions and renovations. When it reopens in March 2007, it will have two new Presidential Suites on the beach and one overwater Presidential Suite. It will also have a new "Fare Pilates," a fitness room, and a relaxing lounge with pool table, library, media room, and Internet "web corner." The existing Manea Spa will be enlarged and the Diving Center by the lagoon will be relocated.
On an air service note, starting November 1, 2006, Air France will increase its number of weekly flights from Los Angeles to Papeete from three to four. The airline, who now uses 433-passenger Boeing 747 aircraft, will switch to the smaller 272-passenger Airbus A 340.
