Jamaica - New Culinary Tour Offered by Walkerswood
Walkerswood Caribbean Foods Ltd., has begun offering culinary tours of Jamaica. The tours are
an informative and fun journey into Jamaica's food heritage taking visitors "from the field to the table." Walkerswood began as a cottage industry 29 years ago with the goal of creating employment and a better way of life for local villagers," said Roddy Edwards, chairman. "Today with 21 products, over 100 employees and a new role in the Jamaican tourist industry, Walkerswood has become a self reliant community that has realized a dream. We are a great source of pride in the community and are dedicated to remaining so." Upon arriving in Walkerswood, which is both the name of the village and the company's brand name, visitors will be led to the Pimento Porch Clubhouse to learn about the history of Walkerswood. Visitors can take pleasure in the views of the countryside and enjoy the warmth of Jamaican hospitality as they head off to the Jerk Pit. Other highlights are a spice garden, a traditional wattle and daub hut, secrets of how to use natural ingredients, and finally, a factory tour where 21 products are being produced or bottled. Visitors are then guided through a small water garden to the Visitor Center where they can relax and enjoy the view with some easy reggae music while sipping fresh tropical juice on the terrace or enjoy a bite from the Nyam and Scram Cafe where they feature both traditional and contemporary Jamaican snacks.
